Volunteer Graphic Designer
Volunteer Graphic Designer
Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation empowering students and schools to drive sustainability through education, technology and community action.
Our work brings together environmental education, student leadership, technology-enabled solutions and partnerships to create meaningful and measurable change.
As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking a capable Volunteer Graphic Designer to create professional visual materials across our programs, communications, partnerships and organisational activities.
This is a practical design role offering the opportunity to produce real work for digital and print use. The volunteer will work from agreed briefs, organisational content and approved brand direction, with feedback provided throughout the design process.
Key responsibilities
• Design social media graphics and campaign materials
• Create digital and print advertisements
• Produce posters, flyers and promotional materials
• Design and refine presentation and pitch-deck slides
• Create visual materials for corporate partnerships, sponsorships and stakeholder engagement
• Support the design of newsletters, reports, program materials and organisational documents
• Adapt approved designs across different sizes, formats and communication channels
• Prepare files appropriately for digital publication and professional printing
• Maintain organised and editable source files
• Apply approved brand elements consistently across materials
• Incorporate feedback and prepare designs for final approval
• Help develop reusable templates for recurring organisational needs

• Presentation and pitch-deck design
• Editorial or report design
• Print and digital production
• Brand implementation
Applicants should be comfortable using Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, Canva or comparable professional design software.
The successful applicant will have strong visual judgement, attention to detail and the ability to interpret a brief accurately.
The applicant should be reliable, responsive to feedback and capable of delivering editable files by agreed deadlines.
Previous professional experience is highly regarded but not essential. Design students, recent graduates, emerging designers and experienced professionals are encouraged to apply.
Relationship to brand strategy
Rethink Australia is separately developing its broader brand strategy and visual identity. The Graphic Designer will focus on producing high-quality materials within approved organisational and brand direction rather than independently redefining the organisation’s identity.
Why volunteer with Rethink Australia?
This is an opportunity to create meaningful, publicly used design work for an ambitious environmental organisation.
The volunteer may contribute to advertisements, social media campaigns, posters, pitch decks, partnership materials, newsletters, reports and program communications. Approved published work may be included in the volunteer’s professional portfolio, subject to appropriate acknowledgement and confidentiality requirements.
Your contribution will help Rethink Australia communicate professionally with schools, volunteers, supporters, prospective partners and the wider community.
The role is based in Sydney and is online or remote friendly. Most assignments can be completed remotely, with occasional in-person collaboration where mutually convenient. Approximately four to six hours per month is anticipated for an initial period of up to six months.
Design review and ownership
All designs must be reviewed and approved by Rethink Australia before publication or distribution. Organisational information, partner details, photographs, claims and other materials must not be published without prior approval.'
Editable source files and final exported files must be provided to Rethink Australia. Portfolio use of completed work should occur only after the relevant material has been publicly released or permission has been provided.

A portfolio or examples of previous design work are required. Relevant examples may include advertisements, posters, social media assets, presentations, reports, publications or other professional visual materials.
