Volunteer Social Media Coordinator

Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation empowering students and schools to drive sustainability through education, technology and community action.

As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking an organised and creative Volunteer Social Media Coordinator to help plan, prepare, schedule and monitor professional content across our approved social media channels.

This is a practical communications role offering experience in social media planning, publishing, content coordination and organisational communications.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a forward social media and content calendar

• Coordinate captions, written content, photographs and visual assets for planned posts

• Prepare social media posts from approved briefs and organisational information

• Schedule and publish approved content across relevant platforms

• Adapt content appropriately for LinkedIn, Instagram and other approved channels

• Coordinate with content writers, graphic designers and other team members

• Maintain an organised library of approved captions, graphics, photographs and published content

• Monitor comments, messages and engagement and escalate matters requiring an organisational response

• Track basic content and platform performance

• Identify relevant organisational milestones, activities and content opportunities

• Proofread posts and check names, dates, links and claims before seeking approval

• Ensure published content follows approved brand, communications and privacy requirements

• Assist with documenting social media processes and maintaining account continuity

About you

We welcome applications from emerging and experienced communications professionals with capability or interest in:

The successful applicant will have strong written communication skills, sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to maintain a consistent publishing schedule.

Applicants should be comfortable working from a content brief, coordinating input from different contributors, responding to feedback and meeting agreed publication deadlines.

Previous professional experience is highly regarded but not essential. University students, recent graduates, emerging communications professionals and experienced volunteers are encouraged to apply.

Relationship to other communications roles

The Social Media Coordinator will focus on planning, assembling, scheduling and monitoring content.

Content writers and graphic designers may contribute copy and visual assets, while the Social Media Coordinator will help bring these materials together into an organised and consistent publishing schedule.

Your contribution will help Rethink Australia communicate consistently with schools, volunteers, supporters, prospective partners and the wider community.

The role is based in Sydney and is online or remote friendly. Most work can be completed remotely, with occasional in-person collaboration where mutually convenient.

Approximately three to five hours per month is anticipated for an initial period of up to six months.

Content approval and account access

All organisational content must be reviewed and approved before publication. The volunteer must not independently publish unapproved partner information, impact claims, photographs, personal information or organisational announcements.
