Board Director (Voluntary)

Access Sydney is seeking expressions of interest from candidates interested in joining the Board as voluntary Non-Executive Directors.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a respected community organisation that supports older people, people with disability and people who are transport disadvantaged to remain socially connected, independent and able to access essential services.

As a Board member, you will play an important role in guiding the organisation’s future through strong governance, strategic oversight and responsible stewardship. You will contribute to Board discussions, help monitor performance and risk, and support decisions that strengthen the organisation’s sustainability and community impact.

Directors are expected to commit for at least 12 months and to participate actively in monthly Board meetings and other workshops/meetings as required.

The Access Sydney Board provides governance, stewardship and strategic direction for the organisation on behalf of its members, in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001, the Company’s Constitution and all program and statutory regulatory requirements.

The Board’s key responsibilities include governance, legal and regulatory compliance, policy oversight, strategic planning, financial oversight, risk management and supporting the Chief Executive Officer and Access Sydney team to deliver on the organisation’s purpose.

Time required

Directors are expected to attend monthly Board meetings, (in the early evening); the annual strategy workshop, Annual General Meeting and relevant committee meetings. Directors will also require time to prepare for meetings by reviewing Board papers and contributing constructively to informed decision-making. Directors may also contribute to additional governance work aligned with their skills, experience and the needs of the Board.

Relevant qualifications and experience in one of the following disciplines: o Board governance, compliance and director responsibilities o Financial capability, audit oversight and funding accountability o Risk governance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance o Strategic planning, organisational sustainability and change oversight o Workforce, culture and organisational capability at a governance level o Sector knowledge in aged care, disability, community services or community transport. Australian Institute of Company Directors qualifications, or equivalent governance qualifications, will be highly regarded.
