At Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, every day brings new patients, new challenges and new opportunities to make a difference. From injured turtles to orphaned birds and reptiles, our team provides urgent care to native wildlife — and our volunteers are at the heart of it all.

We’re looking for passionate, reliable individuals to join us as Hospital Volunteers, providing essential hands-on support to our veterinary team and helping create a safe, clean and caring environment for wildlife to recover.

About Us

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital provides urgent veterinary care to sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. Now based at our Lennox Head site, our dedicated veterinary team works year-round to treat and rehabilitate animals impacted by habitat loss, disease and human activity.

What You’ll Be Doing

Hospital Volunteers provide essential practical support to our team. Your tasks may include:

• Preparing specialised diets for a variety of wildlife patients
• Cleaning and maintaining enclosures to a high standard
• Assisting with general hospital cleaning and laundry
• Supporting the veterinary team with appropriate day-to-day tasks
• Restocking and organising hospital supplies
• Helping maintain a safe, clean and organised environment for our patients and team

This is a hands-on role, and volunteers should be comfortable with cleaning, physical tasks and working in a busy hospital environment.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Passionate about native wildlife and animal welfare
• Comfortable with hands-on and physical tasks, including cleaning, lifting and standing
• Reliable and able to follow instructions, procedures and protocols
• Calm, patient and willing to learn
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Able to commit to a regular volunteer shift where possible

Previous wildlife or veterinary experience is not required — just a positive attitude, reliability and a genuine willingness to help.
