Maintenance & Grounds Volunteer

Help us care for the place that cares for wildlife.

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital provides professional veterinary care to sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife, free of charge. Since opening in October 2020, thousands of wildlife patients have come through our doors for treatment and care.

Behind our veterinary work is a dedicated team of volunteers who help keep our hospital and grounds safe, functional and welcoming. We’re looking for a practical, reliable Maintenance & Grounds Volunteer to join the team and help with the day-to-day upkeep of our Lennox Head site.

About the Role

As a Maintenance & Grounds Volunteer, you’ll provide valuable practical support around the hospital and grounds. This is a hands-on role that’s ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, using tools and getting stuck into a variety of tasks.

Your contribution helps us maintain a safe and well-organised environment for our wildlife patients, veterinary team and volunteers.

What You’ll Be Doing

Tasks may vary depending on what’s needed and could include:

  • Assisting with the general upkeep of the hospital and surrounding grounds
  • Mowing, blowing leaves and general garden maintenance
  • Collecting appropriate foliage for wildlife patients
  • Keeping outdoor areas tidy, safe and accessible
  • Assisting with basic maintenance and practical tasks around the site
  • Using common garden and maintenance tools safely
  • Helping with other appropriate tasks as needed

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable, punctual and willing to lend a hand
  • Is practical and comfortable undertaking physical tasks
  • Can adapt when priorities or tasks change
  • Is comfortable working independently with limited supervision
  • Can be on their feet for extended periods
  • Is confident using basic tools and equipment, such as a blower and mower
  • Can follow instructions and workplace safety procedures
  • Enjoys working outdoors
  • Shares our passion for wildlife and environmental conservation

Previous maintenance or groundskeeping experience is helpful but not essential.
