The James Macready-Bryan (JMB) Foundation

Over four weeks away

On his 20th birthday in 2006, James Macready-Bryan’s life was changed forever when he was violently assaulted in Melbourne. The attack caused a catastrophic brain injury, leaving James with profound and permanent disabilities. James requires 24-hour specialist care and now lives in age-appropriate accommodation.

The JMB Foundation was established soon after to help meet the cost of James’s ongoing care. More than 20 years later, JMB Foundation continues to support other young Australians living with acquired brain injury.  We’re a longstanding charity partner of the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival, and our volunteers help keep the event running safely and smoothly.

Importantly, as a course marshal, your primary role is to manage pedestrian traffic and supervise intersections and roadblocks along the course. You’ll need to be able to communicate effectively in English and give clear directions to spectators.  You’ll also have the chance to cheer runners on as they pass.

Course marshals will need to be at their post by 5 am and will finish around 2 pm.

You’ll be provided with a free t-shirt, cap, safety vest and lunch pack AND will also be part of one of Melbourne’s biggest sporting events, while helping raise funds for JMB Foundation.  For every volunteer on our team, the Melbourne Marathon makes a donation to the Foundation.  You’ll be doing something great!
