Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visitors connects volunteers with older people who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
Graham* is in his late 70s and lives at home with the support of his wife and family. These days, poor health keeps him at home most of the time and he spends much of his day in bed. He's finding the days can be long and would welcome someone new to talk with and get to know.
Graham enjoys keeping up with the news, current affairs and what's happening around Australia. He likes hearing different perspectives and appreciates a good discussion about the issues of the day.
He's also a fan of car shows, renovation programs and videos about building projects. Whether it's talking about the latest headlines, watching a favourite program together or simply sharing stories from life, Graham enjoys good company and a decent conversation.
A volunteer visitor doesn't need any special skills. Just a willingness to sit down, have a chat, share a cuppa and spend some time together.
Graham is hard of hearing, so he benefits from one-to-one conversation, patience and clear communication. These visits would not only provide valuable companionship for Graham but also offer some support to his wife, who continues to care for him at home.
Sometimes it's not about doing anything special. It's just about being there.
We're looking for a reliable volunteer who can commit to regular visits and enjoys talking, listening and connecting with others.
