Greg* Would Love a Mate Who Enjoys Fixing Things

Wesley Mission

Logo for Wesley Mission

Greg* is in his 90s and has always been a hands-on, practical man. Known as "Mr Fix It", he'd love a volunteer visitor to share conversation and practical interests like gardening, woodwork and restoration projects.

He now lives in residential aged care. After a lifetime of independence, he has found the transition challenging and misses having opportunities to stay involved in the practical, hands-on activities that have always given him a sense of purpose.

Across his career he worked on a cattle farm, in a sawmill and in construction. Greg proudly describes himself as a "Mr Fix It". He enjoys gardening, woodwork, spending time outdoors, reading newspapers and magazines, watching sport, and listening to country and western music. He particularly enjoys talking about tools, repairs, building projects and how things work.

A volunteer who enjoys gardening, Men's Shed activities, woodwork, restoring bicycles or simply chatting about farming, construction or practical projects would be a wonderful match. Shared interests and meaningful conversation could grow into a valued friendship.

Greg lives with cognitive impairment and benefits from clear communication and familiar routines. He responds best to volunteers who are patient, consistent and genuinely interested in getting to know him.

We're looking for a kind and reliable volunteer who can commit to regular visits and enjoys connecting with others through shared interests, practical activities and conversation.

As a Wesley volunteer, you'll receive:

  • Ongoing support from your Wesley Volunteer Coordinator
  • Training and guidance to help you get started
  • A carefully considered match
  • Invitations to volunteer recognition and celebration events

If you can spare an hour a fortnight, we'd love to hear from you.

Sometimes the best way to build a friendship is to start with a shared interest.
