We’re looking for positive, compassionate and reliable volunteer Mentors to join our 8-week Men’s Program.

About On My Feet (OMF)  On My Feet (a registered charity in Australia), helps people transform their lives. A not-for-profit supporting people experiencing or vulnerable to homelessness by providing exercise groups and structured programs aimed at creating pathways to self-sufficiency and improved wellbeing. On My Feet Programs are offered free of charge to residents/clients and the shelters/agencies. We have several chapters throughout Western Australia, and we are growing.

What this role will do:

  • Lead and facilitate a weekly walking group, fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive community. This includes planning and coordinating safe and enjoyable walking routes, with green spaces and making sure On My Feet procedures and guidelines are being followed.
  • Provide leadership support, mentoring and encouragement to the group, addressing their needs with empathy and respect and where necessary collaborate with relevant local organizations and services to support the group improve their lives.
  • Maintain reporting requirements and communicate any issues or feedback to the coordinating team.
  • Coordinate merchandise and cascade communications to your group(s) from the wider business.

What does a Mentor do? As a Mentor, you’ll become a consistent and encouraging presence for a participant throughout their 8-week journey. You’ll help your mentee:

  • Build confidence and self-belief
  • Improve their physical and mental wellbeing
  • Stay motivated and engaged with exercise
  • Set personal goals and celebrate their progress
  • Develop positive habits
  • Build connection, belonging and community
  • Take steps towards greater stability and independence

You don’t need to be a counsellor, therapist or case manager. We’re looking for someone who can listen, encourage, support and genuinely care.

What is the commitment? Mentors are asked to:

  • Attend one On My Feet session each week
  • Check in with your mentee twice each week
  • Provide encouragement and accountability
  • Follow our Six E’s Mentoring Framework (will train if not familiar)
  • Raise any concerns with the program coordinator when needed

The time commitment is approximately 1–2 hours for the weekly session, plus two 15-minute check-ins each week. Check-ins can be as simple as a phone call, text message, coffee or a conversation before or after a session.

Our Six E’s Mentors will be supported to use our simple mentoring framework: Establish Connection • Explore Goals • Empower • Encourage • Escalate • Educate You’ll receive guidance and support throughout the program and you won’t be expected to have all the answers.
