Marketing Communications Lead (NED)
Operational Responsibilities
As Marketing Communications Lead, you will provide operational leadership to our marketing and communications volunteers while contributing your professional expertise to the Board.
You will:
- Provide strategic communications advice to the Board and Executive Director
- Lead and coordinate the Marketing and Communications volunteers, currently comprising a team of 2–6 people, who are responsible for social media, communications materials, digital marketing analytics and website content
- Mentor volunteers and support their development and effective delivery
- Oversee social media content, tone and community engagement/moderation
- Guide external communications, media relations, press releases and public statements
- Act as a communications sounding board for the Executive Director, Board and operational team, ensuring communications are clear, consistent and aligned with No More Butts’ objectives
- Support reputation management and issues/crisis communications.
Governance and Compliance
As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the governance and strategic oversight of No More Butts.
Directors are expected to:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of No More Butts
- Ensure our mission remains clear, appropriate and relevant
- Monitor programs and activities to ensure they align with our mission and objectives
- Ensure resources are obtained and used appropriately and sustainably
- Be satisfied as to the integrity of financial reporting and adequacy of internal controls
- Comply with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Governance Standards
- Fulfil statutory and fiduciary duties, including acting in good faith, exercising care, diligence and skill, and appropriately managing conflicts of interest.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone who combines professional expertise with a collaborative and practical approach.
You will have:
- An understanding of Board duties and responsibilities, or a willingness to develop this knowledge
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills
- Excellent time management and task prioritisation
- Strong attention to detail
- High computer literacy, including Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a team
- A commitment to the role and ability to devote the required time and diligence.
Highly desirable attributes and experience
- Senior or leadership-level marketing and communications experience
- Media relations, public relations, digital marketing or social media experience
- Board or committee experience
- Experience leading teams or volunteers
- Experience working in or with a not-for-profit organisation
- Issues management or crisis communications experience
- Website and digital analytics experience
- Fundraising and philanthropy experience
- Experience with government processes, public policy or councils
About No More Butts
No More Butts is taking action on the single biggest contributor to litter in Australia and around the world: cigarette butts. Made from cellulose acetate, cigarette filters are not biodegradable and can leach chemicals into the environment. We also advocate for effective disposal schemes for vaping devices in response to the environmental and safety risks associated with batteries entering waste management streams.
Based in Queensland, Australia, No More Butts is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and holds Deductible Gift Recipient status.
