Women and Mentoring LTD (WAM)

Advertised by South East Volunteers

Make a meaningful difference through mentoring and connection.

Women and Mentoring – WAM Limited (WAM) is looking for compassionate and committed volunteers to become mentors and support women and young women who are in contact with, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system.

As a Volunteer Mentor, you will build a positive and supportive relationship with a participant, providing encouragement, connection and a safe space to be heard. You’ll support participants to recognise their strengths, explore their goals, build confidence and strengthen their connections with family, community and other support services.

You don’t need to be a counsellor or social worker to become a mentor. WAM values people who are reliable, respectful, non-judgmental and genuinely interested in supporting others. Lived experience is valued, but it is not essential.

What you may do:

Build a trusting and respectful mentoring relationship. Listen, encourage and provide positive support. Help participants identify their strengths, interests and goals. Encourage connection with community, education, employment and support services. Support participants to develop confidence, independence and positive pathways. Attend regular mentoring sessions and maintain appropriate boundaries. Work alongside WAM staff and participate in training and supervision.

What we’re looking for:

A genuine interest in supporting women and young people. Good communication and listening skills. Empathy, patience and a non-judgmental approach. Reliability and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. An ability to respect different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Willingness to complete WAM’s required training and screening.

WAM provides training, ongoing support and guidance to help you feel confident in your mentoring role.

This is an opportunity to use your time, skills and life experience to help someone feel connected, supported and empowered to create positive change in their life.
