About the organization - We at MYND Initiative Incorporated believe that mental health matters to everyone and that everyone has their own story to tell. Our mission is to remove the stigma associated with mental illness, help people to develop good mental health hygiene, develop skills to cope in a mental health crisis and to feel comfortable talking about their own mental health. In doing this we hope to develop communities of understanding who are able to listen to and support those struggling with mental health issues as well as enabling those communities to develop individualized mental health awareness programs.

About the role
Overview
Policies only matter if people understand them and they hold up against the rules MYND actually has to follow. As a Policy Officer, you'll get into the details i.e. tightening up wording, checking requirements against legislation, and making sure our policies say what they need to say without saying more than they need to. It's detailed work, and it's work that protects the organisation and the people in it.
Key Responsibilities
- Reform and condense existing policies and procedures, identifying where wording can be clearer, sections simplified, or outdated content removed.
- Ensure policies comply with government and regulatory requirements, flagging any gaps to the Policy Team Leader and recommending wording changes where needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and determine how changes may impact MYND's existing policies, raising potential impacts early.
- Collaborate with other teams across MYND as needed rather than developing policy in silo, making sure policies reflect how the organisation actually operates and work for the people who use them.
About you
You do not need a formal background in mental health for this role. What matters most is an eye for detail, a plain-English writing style, and a genuine interest in keeping policies accurate and up to date.
- An eye for detail and a comfort with reading and interpreting written rules and requirements.
- A practical, plain-English writing style. You can take something dense and make it clear without losing accuracy.
- Curiosity about legislation and regulation, or a willingness to build that knowledge over time.
- Good organisational habits: you can keep track of multiple policies and changes without things slipping through the cracks.
- A genuine interest in mental health awareness and MYND's mission.
This is a volunteer role. It is not an employment relationship and does not create any legally enforceable obligation to attend, perform work, or receive payment. We will reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses directly incurred in the role.
