Cooper House - Bus Outing Volunteer in Aged Care, Chermside

Cooper House Residential Aged Care Community is seeking Bus Outing Volunteers to accompany residents on their weekly bus trips. These outings offer residents the chance to enjoy local sights and spend time in the community.

These experiences assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!

The Bus Outing Volunteer can help residents by:

• Confirming which residents are attending the bus outing before departure.
• Assisting with pushing wheelchairs when loading and unloading the bus and provide support throughout the outing as needed.
• Supporting the Lifestyle Coordinator and residents to help ensure a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive outing experience.
• Assisting residents to return to their preferred locations or activities following the outing.
• Communicating resident feedback to staff to assist in improving both the activity and resident enjoyment.

This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteer sessions are available:

• First Wednesday of each month from 12:45pm to 3:30pm
• Second Wednesday of each month from 9:00am to 12:30pm or,
• Fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:00am to 3:30pm.

This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
