Cooper House - Jewellery Craft Volunteer in Aged Care, Chermside

Cooper House Residential Aged Care Community in Chermside is seeking a Jewellery Craft Volunteer to lead residents in creating unique pieces through beading, designing and hands‑on crafting.

These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!

The Jewellery Craft Volunteer can help residents by:

• Promoting the jewellery making activity by inviting residents to participate and providing friendly reminders prior to the session.
• Assisting residents, including wheelchair users, to travel safely to and from the activity area.
• Supporting residents during the session by helping them design and create jewellery pieces and assisting with simple repairs when needed.
• Offering guidance, encouragement, and assistance to ensure residents have a positive and engaging experience.
• Assisting residents to return to their preferred locations after the activity.

This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteer opportunities are available on Monday and Thursday afternoons between 12:00pm to 4:00pm, and Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9:00am to 1:00pm. Session times can be flexible to accommodate volunteer availability.

This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
