Join Our Coffee & Chat Program: Make a Difference in the Lives of Elderly Residents

Brighten someone’s day while making a meaningful difference to their life. Our Coffee & Chat Program connects volunteers with aged care residents for friendly, one-on-one visits that foster companionship, connection and happiness. We’re looking for warm, caring people who enjoy getting to know others and sharing a little of their time.

Several residents would love to build a 1:1 connection with a new friendly face. Here is just one of the wonderful people who would love to welcome you into their week:

"Jack" is a down-to-earth bloke – a former truck and forklift driver with plenty of life experience and a soft spot for dogs. These days, he enjoys light conversation and the company of someone easygoing. 🛻🐕
Jack can sometimes change the subject mid-conversation or lose track of what he’s saying, but with a calm and friendly approach, he’s great to spend time with. His mood can shift depending on how he’s feeling, so a bit of patience and a relaxed attitude go a long way.
We’re ideally looking for a male volunteer with a good sense of humour and a bit of patience – someone who can take Jack for a stroll, sit for a chat, or just be a steady, friendly presence in his day. Your time could mean the world to Jack.

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys meaningful one-on-one time and wants to make a real difference in someone’s day, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee
  • Spend time in the gardens
  • Listen to and share life stories
  • Play cards, or work on puzzles
  • Listen to their favourite music

Why Volunteer?

  • Flexible visits to suit your schedule
  • Create meaningful moments for seniors

Many aged care residents experience loneliness and social isolation. Over 40% of people in aged care don’t have regular visitors. By volunteering just one hour a fortnight, you can make a real difference. You’ll be matched one-on-one with a resident who would value your friendship and companionship. Your visit could brighten their day and help them feel more connected.

Program Details:

  • Dedication: Our special volunteers are people who would like to visit their new friend about 20 times or more over a twelve-month period (about one visit every two to three weeks).
  • Requirements: Must be over 18 years old, complete pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (provided and paid for by us) and ideally be available to visit consistently and ongoing.

Ideal Volunteers:

  • Exhibit care and compassion for the elderly
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Are committed and punctual

What You’ll Gain:

  • The chance to form long-lasting, meaningful friendships
  • Be part of a friendly team with a strong community spirit
  • Experience the joy of enriching the lives of others
