Cooper House at Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community in Chermside is seeking volunteers who are interested in sharing your time and a little pampering with our residents. As a Hand and Nail Care Volunteer, you will help create enjoyable wellbeing experiences through hand massages, nail care, friendly chats, and social connection. Some knowledge of nail care, safe hand hygiene practices and basic hand massage techniques is beneficial, although support and guidance will be provided.

These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!

The Hand and Nail Care Volunteer can help residents by:

  • Providing simple manicures, nail painting and hand massages for both male and female residents.
  • Setting up supplies and preparing the activity area for group or one-on-one sessions.
  • Inviting and encouraging residents to participate by visiting rooms or following an invitation list.
  • Assisting wheelchair users to attend activities in the lounge area.
  • Offering friendly conversation while supporting residents during pamper sessions.
  • Supporting residents to return to their preferred location following the activity.

This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteer hours are available Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Volunteers can select the day and regular timeslot that best fits their availability.

This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
