Social Change Campaign Volunteer (Transport Change Lab)

Use marketing, communications and creativity to help create social change in transport.

Get Around Caboolture is a community organisation working to create more transport choice so everyone can travel safely, independently and confidently, whether they walk, wheel, ride, catch public transport or drive.

We're starting a new Transport Change Lab and we're looking for students studying marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, social media or related fields who are curious about how communications and campaigns can help create social change.

This isn't a social media assistant role.

You'll be working on the thinking behind campaigns, from understanding an issue and its audience through to developing messages, creative ideas and campaign content.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing campaign ideas around transport choice and social change
  • Exploring different audiences and what might connect with them
  • Developing campaign concepts, messages and creative approaches
  • Creating social media and other campaign content
  • Exploring how marketing and communications can influence public thinking
  • Testing ideas, learning from what works and refining your approach
  • Sharing ideas and collaborating with other volunteers as they join the Lab

How the Lab works

You'll work closely with the founder of Get Around Caboolture, who will guide you through campaign topics, ideas and the development of your projects.

You'll be self-directed much of the time, taking ideas forward independently and bringing your thinking back to the team.

As other volunteers come on board, you'll have opportunities to work with them, share ideas and collaborate on campaigns.

All work is done online. We don't have an office.

The time commitment is approximately 4 to 8 hours per week, with flexibility around your studies and other commitments.

You'll be part of the first cohort

We're just starting the Transport Change Lab, so there isn't a finished programme waiting for you to step into.

You'll be one of the first volunteers to join the Lab.

We'll be building the Lab around the experiences, skills and interests of the volunteers who join us. You'll have the opportunity to help shape how the Lab works as well as contribute to the campaigns we develop.

We're looking for people who are comfortable taking initiative, working independently and bringing their own ideas to the table.

You might enjoy this role if you

  • Are studying marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, social media or a related field
  • Are curious about how campaigns can influence attitudes and create social change
  • Enjoy thinking about audiences, messages and creative ideas
  • Like working independently but also enjoy collaborating with others
  • Are interested in transport choice, accessibility, freedom and independence
  • Want to apply what you're learning to a real community issue
  • Are prepared to take an idea and work with it rather than waiting to be given a list of tasks

You don't need to have a background in transport. We're interested in what you can bring from your own field and how you think about problems.

About Get Around Caboolture

Get Around Caboolture is a community organisation working towards a future where everyone has genuine transport choice, freedom and independence, regardless of whether they drive.

We look at transport from the perspective of the people who use it and those who are often left out of transport decision-making.
