About the organisation

Street Side Medics is a not-for-profit, GP-led mobile medical service for people experiencing homelessness. Our vision is to ensure that all vulnerable individuals requiring healthcare can access it effortlessly, with dignity and respect.

At Street Side Medics make long term commitments to the communities in which we work. By teaming up with local community partners, and delivering our clinics from the same place, at the same time, on the same day, each week, we’re able to build lasting relationships and ensure continuity of care.

The team on the ground each week are all volunteers and include GPs, other medical practitioners, registered and enrolled nurses, allied health professionals and other non-medical volunteers that may come from a variety of professional backgrounds. The clinics operate from vans with full medical fit outs, and work in conjunction with other homeless services 6 days a week at 16 locations across NSW, VIC and ACT.

About the role

We are recruiting nurses, paramedics and junior doctors to volunteer once a month at our Nowra Clinic, operating on Tuesdays from 10am – 12pm.

You will volunteer as a Clinical Support Officer (CSO) at the clinic. The key role of the CSO is to monitor and record vitals, wound care, attend physical and psychological presentations that may not require a GP. The CSO works closely with the rest of the clinical team to distribute the workload and ensure the clinic runs smoothly.

The impact of this role The skills, compassion and experience nurses, paramedics and junior doctors bring to our clinics ensures we can provide primary health care with dignity and respect to those experiencing homelessness

Benefits include a chance to become part of a tight knit volunteer community while providing meaningful and immediate support to the most vulnerable amongst us. You will also have the opportunity to learn and get access to our key speakers at our annual education days.
