Cooper House - Mindful Movement and Wellbeing Volunteer in Aged Care, Chermside

Do you enjoy helping others stay active, engaged, and connected? At Cooper House Aged Care Community in Chermside, we are seeking enthusiastic and caring volunteers to support residents in a range of gentle movement and wellbeing activities, including seated yoga, Tai Chi, stretching, music-based movement sessions, and other low-impact exercises.
These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!
The Mindful Movement and Wellbeing Volunteer can help residents by:
- Welcoming, inviting, and encouraging residents to participate through invitation lists and room-to-room visits.
- Assisting residents, including wheelchair users, to and from activity areas.
- Setting up chairs, equipment, and activity spaces for sessions.
- Leading or assisting with seated yoga, Tai Chi, stretching, and gentle movement activities.
- Supporting engaging, low-impact exercise and stretching sessions set to uplifting music.
- Supporting residents of varying mobility needs and abilities to participate safely and comfortably.
- Creating a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment through movement and music-based activities.
- Assisting residents to return to their preferred location following the activity.
This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.
Volunteer opportunities are available every Thursday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, and on alternate Saturdays with sessions starting at either 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm, depending on your availability.
This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.
Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
