Shanghainese-Speaking Volunteer Needed — Bexley
We’re looking for a warm and caring Shanghainese-speaking volunteer to spend time with an older person living in a residential care facility in Bexley.
For an older person, hearing a familiar language and sharing stories about family, culture and life can mean so much. Your time and companionship can help them feel understood, connected and less alone.
What Could You Do Together?
- Enjoy a cup of tea and 用上海闲话讲讲闲话 — have a relaxed chat in Shanghainese
- Share stories, memories and family experiences
- Listen to music or enjoy favourite hobbies
- Take a gentle walk and enjoy some fresh air
- Laugh, reminisce and simply enjoy each other’s company

Sometimes, simply having someone to talk to can make a big difference.
You don’t need previous volunteering experience — just kindness, reliability and a willingness to listen and connect.
Volunteer Requirements
- Be 18 years or older
- Speak Shanghainese
- Complete a National Police Check
- Commit to visiting weekly or fortnightly
You’ll receive training, guidance and ongoing support from your Program Coordinator.
