Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation

🐋 Do something different with your weekend

Whale watching at Hillarys. A weekend away at camp. Surfing at Scarborough.

We're looking for some great people to join the Kookaburra Kids WA volunteer crew and share these experiences with young people who could really use a good day, a good laugh and people in their corner.

No weekly commitment. Choose a program that works for you and start there.

🌊 Pick your adventure

🐋 5 Sep – Whale Watching | Hillarys
🏕️ 11–13 Sep – Woodman Point Camp | Coogee
🏕️ 9–11 Oct – Woodman Point Camp | Coogee
🏕️ 6–8 Nov – Point Walter Camp | Bicton
🏄 5 Dec – Go Surf Perth | Scarborough

Come to one. Come to a few. It's up to you.

💙 What does volunteering look like?

It's pretty simple. Come along and be part of the day.

Get involved in the activities. Have a chat over lunch. Encourage someone who's unsure about trying something new. Share a laugh. Help a young person feel welcome and included.

You'll be alongside our staff and other volunteers, so you're never expected to have all the answers.

You don't need to be a counsellor or have experience working with young people.

Bring your personality, be willing to get involved and we'll help with the rest.

🙋 Who joins our crew?

People from all sorts of backgrounds.

Students looking for real-world experience. People working Monday to Friday who want to do something worthwhile on the occasional weekend. ADF members, veterans and Defence families. People new to Perth. People who simply want to give volunteering a go.

If you're studying psychology, social work, teaching, youth work, counselling, community services or health, it's also a great opportunity to build practical experience with young people.

But you don't need to work or study in any of those areas.

Good humans welcome.

🌟 We cover the experience

While you're volunteering:

  • Activities are covered
  • Meals are provided
  • Accommodation is provided on weekend camps
  • Training and support are provided

If the young people are getting involved, you'll usually be right there with them.

🛡️ Before your first program

You'll need to be 18+ and already hold a current WA Working with Children Check (WWCC).

You'll complete our volunteer onboarding, child safeguarding and program-readiness training before attending.

A National Police Check (NPC) is also required. We organise this for you and Kookaburra Kids covers the cost.

💙 Why Kookaburra Kids?

We support young people impacted by family mental illness, including young people from Defence and veteran families.

Our programs give them time to connect, try new things, build confidence and just enjoy being young.

As a volunteer, you're not there to fix anything.

You're there to show up. Join in. Notice the young person hanging back. Cheer someone on. Have a laugh. Help make it a great experience.

Those moments matter.

🐋 Sound like your kind of weekend?

Don't worry about committing to everything.

Pick one adventure. Come meet the crew. Give it a go.

We'd love to have you with us. 💙
