Cooper House - Social Sport Volunteer in Aged Care, Chermside

Do you enjoy sport, encouraging others, and creating meaningful moments of fun? Cooper House at Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community, Chermside, is seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to support residents during our popular seated sports sessions, including seated soccer, noodle hockey, and indoor golf. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys motivating others, creating positive experiences, and helping residents stay active, connected, and engaged while having fun.
These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!
The Social Sport Volunteer can help residents by:
- Setting up the activity area for seated soccer, noodle hockey, or golf sessions.
- Inviting and encouraging residents to attend activities through invitation lists and room-to-room visits.
- Assisting residents, including wheelchair users, to attend the activity and ensure they arrive safely and comfortably.
- Leading or assisting with games and activities, ensuring everyone feels included and engaged.
- Adapting activities and providing encouragement for residents with varying mobility levels and abilities.
- Creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment where residents can build confidence, social connections, and enjoy friendly competition.
- Ensuring residents are safely accompanied to their next activity or preferred location following the session.
This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.
Volunteer hours are available on Wednesday and Sunday mornings or Thursday afternoons. Volunteers can select the day and regular timeslot that best fits their availability.
This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.
Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
