Help bring Australian literature to life for people who are blind or have low vision.
Vision Australia is a leading national provider of blindness and low vision services. Through our Library Services program, volunteers play an important role in ensuring people who are blind or have low vision can access literature, educational resources and information in accessible formats.
We are seeking passionate and talented female volunteer narrators to assist with the production of accessible audiobooks and literary recordings. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with experience in acting, theatre, broadcasting, public speaking, voice-over work, teaching or other forms of storytelling and performance.
Volunteers will help create high-quality recordings of novels, plays and poetry, supporting access to literature and educational resources for people who are blind or have low vision.
Current recording projects include a variety of Australian novels, plays and poetry collections, including works studied in secondary and tertiary education settings, such as:

Specific Duties:
• Record high-quality audio versions of literary works
• Bring stories, characters and poetry to life through expressive narration
• Interpret dialogue, dramatic texts and character voices with authenticity and clarity
• Contribute to the accessibility of educational and recreational reading materials
• Work collaboratively with Vision Australia's Audio Production team
• Participate in a voice audition and assessment process
Skills & Attributes:
• A clear, engaging and expressive speaking voice
• Strong reading, literacy and communication skills
• Experience in acting, performance, broadcasting, presenting, teaching or similar fields
• Confidence interpreting dialogue, poetry and dramatic texts
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate recordings
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently
• Passion for literature, storytelling and accessibility

You will receive guidance and support from our Audio Production team in the studios for operation of recording equipment, plus direction / feedback re: narration
Time required:

3‑hour recording session once per week with days and times flexible and negotiated based on project requirements
