Cooper House in Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community at Chermside is seeking caring and reliable volunteers to support residents attending on-site church services. This role involves assisting residents to and from the service, helping them settle in comfortably, and providing support during worship activities as needed.

These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!

Church Service Support Volunteers can help residents by:

  • Encouraging and reminding residents about upcoming church services by visiting residents in their rooms and/or using the invitation list.
  • Assisting residents, including wheelchair users, to travel safely to the lounge for the service.
  • Providing support to residents throughout the church service.
  • Helping residents follow along with hymn books during the service.
  • Assisting residents to return to their preferred location following the service.

This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteer hours are available on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, from 9:30am to 11:30am.

This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.
