Cooper House - Chat and Connect Volunteer in Aged Care, Chermside

Cooper House in Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community at Chermside is seeking a Chat and Connect Volunteer to support our weekly Burleigh Chat activity, a relaxed Sunday afternoon gathering where residents come together to enjoy conversation, build friendships, and connect with others in a welcoming social environment.

These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!

Chat and Connect Volunteers can help residents by:

• Inviting and encouraging residents to attend the Burleigh Chat activity.
• Assisting residents to and from the Burleigh Lounge.
• Welcoming residents and helping them feel comfortable and included.
• Engaging with residents in friendly conversation and facilitating social interaction.
• Assisting residents to return to their preferred location following the activity.

This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteer hours are available each Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
