International Development Volunteer Board Director – Marketing & Communications
Partners in Aid is seeking an experienced marketing and communications professional to join our Board and lead our Marketing & Communications portfolio.
We are looking for someone who can bring fresh thinking and established expertise to modernise our marketing, strengthen our digital presence and shape how we engage supporters into the future.
About Partners in Aid
Partners in Aid is an Australian not-for-profit supporting community-led international development since 1962.
We partner with local organisations in India, Sri Lanka, Fiji and the Philippines to deliver grassroots projects across education, health, livelihoods, environmental sustainability and community development.
Our approach is based on long-term partnerships, local leadership and sustainable change. We are also strengthening our systems as we progress towards DFAT accreditation.
About the Role
As a Board Director holding the Marketing & Communications portfolio, you will have genuine ownership and autonomy in this area.
We want someone who can review our current approach, identify opportunities and help bring our marketing into the modern age. You will have the freedom to set priorities, introduce new ideas and determine where your expertise can have the greatest impact.
The role combines strategic leadership with some hands-on involvement in a small, volunteer-led organisation.
Your portfolio may include:
- developing PIA's marketing and communications strategy
- modernising our digital presence
- strengthening our website, social media and email marketing
- improving how we tell the stories of our projects and impact
- growing awareness and reaching new supporters
- supporting fundraising and donor engagement
- introducing effective marketing systems and tools
- using analytics to guide future activity
- ensuring ethical storytelling and safeguarding principles are followed
You will work with project coordinators and Board members to ensure our marketing reflects a strong understanding of our projects and communities.
Your Role on the Board
Alongside leading the marketing portfolio, you will participate as a full Board Director, contributing to monthly Board meetings, strategy, governance and decision-making.
This provides broad exposure to how an international development organisation operates while allowing you to contribute beyond your professional portfolio.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with established experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, brand, content or a related field.
You may come from the corporate, agency, not-for-profit or social enterprise sector. International development experience is welcome but not essential.
Ideally, you:
- bring strong marketing or communications expertise
- enjoy taking ownership and working autonomously
- understand contemporary digital marketing
- can think strategically while also getting involved
- have ideas and the confidence to recommend new approaches
- want to use your professional skills for social impact
- are collaborative and comfortable in a volunteer-led organisation
Experience across digital strategy, social media, email, websites, SEO, content, fundraising communications, PR, brand or analytics would be valuable. We don't expect expertise in everything.
Commitment
Approximately 8 hours per month, including a monthly online Board meeting and autonomous portfolio work.
The Board term is three years, with the possibility of re-election.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the marketing direction of an established international development organisation, introduce new ideas, gain Board and governance experience and contribute to meaningful grassroots development work.
Requirements
Successful applicants will be required to share PIA's commitment to ethical development, complete a Working With Children Check and police check, provide two referees, and comply with PIA's safeguarding policies and Code of Conduct.
To express interest, please send a short introduction and CV to [email protected].
We welcome applications from people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Child Safeguarding: Partners in Aid is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable people. We have zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation and harm, and expect all volunteers and Board members to uphold our Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
