Web Copywriter & WordPress Content Assistant (Volunteer)

Location: Hybrid / Remote (Work from home, with the option to work from our Sydney office if preferred)
About the Role
We are preparing to launch a refreshed, redesigned website! We are looking for a digital-savvy volunteer with strong web writing skills and hands-on experience managing content on websites to help transfer, refresh, and format pages in our new staging environment.
Working alongside our Director of Philanthropy & Public Affairs and Marketing & Communications Manager, you will use our current site content, updated messaging guidelines, and brand assets to populate key pages with engaging web copy, optimized formatting, and appropriate imagery.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Migration & Drafting: Adapt and rewrite existing website copy to fit new page layouts and modern web content standards (scannable text, clear calls-to-action).
- Page Setup & Formatting: Input text, select/upload images, and format pages directly within our website sandbox environment.
- SEO & Readability Optimization: Use our integrated SEO tool (Yoast) to check readability scores, add meta descriptions, and ensure copy meets basic search engine optimization standards.
- Visual Sourcing: Select appropriate imagery and digital assets from our media library to complement page text.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure links, headers, and formatting are consistent across key landing pages before final review.
Requirements & Skills
- Web Content Experience (Essential): Proven experience creating, editing, and publishing content inside a website management platform (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow, Wix, or similar CMS).
- WordPress Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with WordPress is a bonus, though easily picked up if you have general website editing experience.
- Writing & Editing: Excellent written English with experience writing or editing web copy (concise, engaging, clear call-to-actions).
- Basic SEO Understanding: Experience using (or willingness to learn) basic SEO plugins to guide web copy structure and readability.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to align brand tone, follow page wireframes, and spot formatting errors.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical experience assisting a national charity through a major digital website refresh.
- Flexible workspace setup (remote, in-office, or a mix of both).
- Portfolio-building opportunity showcasing live, published web copy and page layouts.
- A reference for your CV or LinkedIn profile upon project completion.
