Safe Space Chatswood

To volunteer at our Chatswood Safe Space, you will be part of a face-to-face, community-based suicide prevention service that provides a welcoming, non-clinical space for people to connect with trained Peers who have their own lived experience of suicide.
NOTE: Roses in the Ocean is a Lived Experience service, you must have a lived experience of suicide:
- Experience thoughts of suicide
- Suicide attempt
- Supported a loved one through suicidal crisis
- Bereaved by suicide
- Or any impact suicide has had on you
Peer CARE Companions meet people where they are at within the Safe Space, offering genuine Peer connection through conversation, listening, shared lived experience and practical support where appropriate. This may include sitting with someone for a chat, helping them explore additional supports or simply being alongside them for a while. Volunteers will have flexibility around their availability and can update this as needed to suit their lifestyle.
Peer CARE Companions are:
Comfortable talking about suicide
Comfortable sitting with another person's lived experience and their feelings and emotions
Able to listen deeply and let people talk about their experiences
The following training is provided:
TouchPoints Workshop (4.5 hours)
Self-paced online modules (4 to 6 hours)
Peer CARE Companion Workshop (6.5 hours)
Service Induction and some practice calls (3 hours)
