Help us build something that can make a genuine difference.

The NSW Diabetes Lions Club is being established as a new specialty Lions Club bringing together people who want to support the diabetes community through service, connection, awareness and practical community projects.

We are looking for founding members.

This is not simply an opportunity to join an established club. It is an opportunity to be there at the beginning and help determine what the club becomes, what projects it undertakes and how it can best serve people affected by diabetes throughout NSW.

You might be living with Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes, be a carer, parent, partner, family member or friend, work in health or community services, or simply care about improving support for people affected by diabetes.

You do not need to have diabetes, and you do not need previous Lions experience.

What could we do?

The club's service projects will be shaped by its founding members and the needs we identify within the diabetes community.

They could include diabetes awareness and community education, fundraising, community events, peer connection initiatives, support for diabetes-related programs, partnerships with health and community organisations, support for families and carers, and practical projects responding to identified needs.

Diabetes is one of Lions International's global causes, and Lions already supports diabetes-related service including awareness, peer support and community partnerships.

Help shape the club

As a founding member, you could help determine our:

  • community service projects;
  • partnerships and fundraising activities;
  • awareness and communication initiatives;
  • member activities and culture; and
  • priorities for supporting the diabetes community.

You don't need to be able to do everything.

Bring the skills, experience, ideas and time that you can contribute.

A flexible NSW-wide club

The NSW Diabetes Lions Club is being designed as a hybrid club so people from across NSW can participate.

Zoom will enable online meetings and planning, while WhatsApp will help members communicate, share ideas and stay connected between meetings.

In-person meetings, service projects and social activities will also form part of the club as it develops, with arrangements shaped around the needs and locations of our founding members.

You do not need to live in Sydney to become involved.

Interested?

If you've ever thought:

“There should be more support for people affected by diabetes”

or

“I'd like to do something practical to help this community”

we would love to hear from you.

Come and help us build the NSW Diabetes Lions Club from the beginning.

Where there is a need, there is a Lion.
