Diabetes Community & Lived Experience Advocates

People affected by diabetes understand needs that statistics alone cannot explain.
The new NSW Diabetes Lions Club wants lived experience to help shape the service we provide.
We are looking for founding members who understand diabetes from different perspectives.
You might be living with Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes, or you might be a parent, partner, carer, family member or friend of someone who does.
You may have supported someone through diagnosis, experienced the practical or financial challenges associated with diabetes, or simply have a strong connection with the diabetes community.
Your experience matters.
Help determine what is needed
Rather than deciding every project before our members arrive, we want our founding members to help identify where Lions can make a genuine practical difference.
Potential projects could include peer connection and community support initiatives, diabetes awareness activities, community events, fundraising, family and carer initiatives, partnerships with health and diabetes organisations, and practical projects addressing identified community needs.
Lions International provides resources for diabetes peer-support activities and other community-based diabetes service projects.
This is community service, not medical care
The NSW Diabetes Lions Club will not replace doctors, diabetes educators or other healthcare professionals, and members will not be expected to provide medical advice.
Our purpose is community service, connection, awareness, fundraising and practical support.
Where projects require clinical or professional health involvement, the club will seek to work with appropriately qualified professionals and organisations.
No Lions experience required
You don't need to know how a Lions Club operates.
We are establishing this club from the beginning, and support will be available.
What matters most is a willingness to work constructively with others and help improve the lives of people affected by diabetes.
Participate from across NSW
Zoom and WhatsApp will make it possible for members across NSW to participate in meetings, planning and communication.
In-person meetings, activities and service projects will also develop as the club grows.
Our founding members will help shape those arrangements.
Come with your experience. Come with your ideas. Help us build something useful.
