Would you like to use your skills and experience to make a difference outside your normal workplace?

The new NSW Diabetes Lions Club is seeking health and community professionals interested in contributing to meaningful diabetes-related community service.

We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, podiatrists, optometrists and eye-health professionals, allied health professionals, community workers, social workers, educators, researchers and public-health professionals.

Other health and community professionals are equally welcome to enquire.

What could your involvement look like?

There is no expectation that every member participates in every project.

Depending on your interests, professional boundaries and availability, you might contribute ideas, help identify community needs, participate in an awareness project, assist with an appropriate community presentation, help establish partnerships, contribute to responsible project design or simply serve alongside other Lions.

Lions encourages clubs undertaking diabetes service to understand local needs and collaborate with appropriate community organisations and professionals.

An important distinction

This is voluntary community service through Lions.

It is not a request for professionals to provide free individual medical treatment or clinical consultations.

Professional involvement will respect appropriate qualifications, professional boundaries and regulatory requirements.

You can also simply be a Lion

Your professional background doesn't have to define your entire involvement.

You may want to help at an event, participate in fundraising, work on partnerships, support another project or contribute ideas outside your professional field.

The aim is to build a diverse club whose members bring different experiences and abilities.

NSW-wide and hybrid

The club will use Zoom and WhatsApp to support members participating from different parts of NSW.

In-person meetings and community-service activities will also form part of the club as it develops.

The founding group will help determine how those arrangements work.

Whether you have a personal connection with diabetes or simply want to use some of your time and experience for an important community cause, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
