Historic Ketch Falie, Inc

Logo for Historic Ketch Falie, Inc

The Treasurer will be a member of the Historic Ketch Falie Inc. Board and will contribute to both the financial oversight and broader governance of the organisation.

This is a planned transition role, with a structured handover from the current Treasurer. The successful applicant will be provided with existing financial records, reporting processes, relevant organisational information and support to become familiar with the role.

The Treasurer will work closely with the Chair and Board to help ensure that Historic Ketch Falie Inc. maintains appropriate financial controls, accurate reporting and sound financial governance.

Responsibilities will include monitoring the organisation’s financial position, preparing or presenting regular financial reports to the Board, contributing to annual budgeting and financial planning, overseeing grant and project expenditure, and assisting with annual financial and charity reporting obligations.

The Treasurer may also liaise with accountants, advisers, service providers and project personnel where required, particularly in relation to financial reporting, compliance and major grant-funded activities.

Historic Ketch Falie Inc. is currently delivering Quiet Ships, Quiet Men, a major heritage documentary project supported through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Saluting Their Service program. The Treasurer will therefore have an important oversight role in relation to project expenditure, financial controls and grant reporting.

The role is primarily one of financial oversight and governance. The Treasurer is not expected to personally undertake every bookkeeping, administrative or operational finance task.

As a Board member, the successful applicant will also be expected to contribute constructively to Board discussions and decision-making, exercise appropriate care and diligence, act in the best interests of the organisation, manage conflicts of interest appropriately and maintain confidentiality.

Applicants should have experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Finance or financial management.
  • Budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Business administration.
  • Grant or project financial management.
  • Not-for-profit or charity governance.

Formal accounting qualifications are highly regarded but not essential. Strong practical financial experience, sound judgement, reliability and an ability to communicate financial information clearly are equally important.

Previous Board experience is also not essential, and applicants considering their first not-for-profit Board appointment are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a current South Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Be eligible to serve as a Responsible Person of an ACNC-registered charity.
  • Not be disqualified from managing a corporation.
  • Become a financial member of Historic Ketch Falie Inc. as a requirement of formal Board appointment. Annual membership is currently $20.
  • Observe appropriate confidentiality, governance and conflict-of-interest requirements.
  • Participate regularly in monthly Board meetings and reasonable Treasurer duties between meetings.
  • Be comfortable using email, online meetings and electronic financial and governance records.

The Board generally meets monthly in the evening. Hybrid participation is preferred, particularly for applicants based in Adelaide or South Australia; however, fully remote applicants will also be considered where they can participate consistently and contribute effectively.

The anticipated commitment is approximately 5–8 hours per month, although this may vary around annual reporting periods, major projects and key financial milestones.

This is a volunteer position.

“Please note: As this is an elected/appointed Board position with Historic Ketch Falie Inc., the successful applicant will be required to become a financial member of the Association. Annual membership is currently $20.”

Historic Ketch Falie Inc. welcomes applications from both experienced finance professionals and people seeking to build their experience in not-for-profit governance.
