About

Outer East Foodshare Inc (OEF) is a local not-for-profit organisation run by a volunteer board. It provides a conduit between food rescue organisations and local emergency food relief agencies (EFRA) within Melbourne Outer East region. Currently OEF is supporting agencies in Maroondah, Yarra Ranges and Knox Council areas. OEF collects food from agencies such as supermarkets, Costco, SecondBite, Nando’s, and local food producers. They currently distribute to over 63 food relief agencies throughout the east of Melbourne.

OEF has a distribution hub at 51 Templeton St, Wantirna where food is sorted, stored and distributed.

Position Purpose:

The position purpose of the Treasurer is to safeguard the charity’s financial health and ensure regulatory compliance by maintaining accurate records in Xero, managing budgets, and providing clear financial stewardship to the Board to support the sustainable delivery of food relief across Melbourne

Role Description

The following is a list of the tasks required of a Treasurer:

● Chair of the Finance Committee

● Establish the FAR Committee (Finance, Audit & Risk)

● Financial Oversight & Budgeting

● Xero Ledger Management

● Board Reporting

● Compliance with ATO, CAV & ACNC

● Grant & Donation Tracking

● Internal Controls & Risk Management

● Assistance in drafting Grant Submissions

Key Selection Criteria

● Financial & Accounting Expertise

● Xero Proficiency

● Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge

● Collaborative Communication & Engagement

Essential

● Working with Children Check (Volunteer role)

Other criteria

● Strong governance expertise (AICD qualifications a plus)

● Weekly ad hoc tasks (e.g. reconciling transactions, paying invoices etc) – estimated 1-2 hours per week

● Time to attend short monthly board meeting and assist projects where relevant to the person’s skills and knowledge. Estimated time commitment 2-3 hours per month for preparation & attendance.
