💕 Volunteer Companion Wanted - Aged Care ACVVS Toowoomba
St Vincent's Health Australia supported by Volunteering Queensland

✨Bring friendship, conversation and a little extra joy to someone’s day ✨
We are looking for a kind, patient and caring volunteer to spend one-on-one time with a resident through the ACVVS program.
For residents experiencing changes in memory or thinking, having a familiar and friendly person to visit can provide wonderful opportunities for connection, comfort and enjoyment.
Visits could include:
- 📖 Reading books, magazines or newspapers together
- 💬 Having relaxed conversations and sharing stories
- 🎶 Listening to favourite music or singing along
- 🧩 Enjoying simple activities, games, puzzles or crafts
- 📸 Looking through photographs and reminiscing about special memories
- 🌿 Going for a gentle walk or enjoying some time outdoors
- ☕ Simply sitting together, having a cuppa and enjoying each other's company
You don't need any special qualifications — just patience, warmth, a good sense of humour and a willingness to meet someone where they are.
There is no pressure to fill every moment with conversation or activity. Sometimes, quiet companionship and a friendly presence are the most meaningful gifts we can offer.
Could you be the familiar face someone looks forward to seeing?
A regular visit can bring friendship, reassurance, stimulation and moments of happiness into a resident's week.
Volunteer through the ACVVS program and make a genuine difference through the simple gift of your time.
Why Volunteer?
Many elderly Australians in aged care homes face loneliness and social isolation. By volunteering just one hour a fortnight, you can make a significant difference in someone's life.
You'll be matched one-on-one with a resident who could greatly benefit from your friendship, companionship and regular presence.
Program Details:
- Dedication: Our special volunteers are people who are willing and able to visit their new friend at least 20 times or more over a twelve-month period
- Requirements: Must be over 18 years old, pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History check (NCCHC) (we will provide assistance, and cover any associated costs) and be available to visit consistently.
Ideal Volunteers:
- Exhibit care and compassion for the elderly
- Are comfortable and patient when spending time with people living with dementia
- Have excellent communication and listening skills
- Enjoy conversation and are interested in learning about other people's lives
- Are committed and punctual
What You’ll Gain:
- The chance to form a long-lasting, meaningful friendship
- Be part of a friendly team with a strong community spirit
- Experience the joy of enriching the life of someone who may otherwise experience loneliness
- The opportunity to share stories, interests and experiences with a wonderful older person
