The responsibilities of a Lifeline telephone crisis supporter are:

  • To help callers to Lifeline's 13 11 14 to find immediate relief from emotional distress
  • To explore coping strategies related to the current crisis with the caller
  • To safely manage any immediate threat to life or safety of the caller
  • To open pathways for the caller to longer term solutions to underlying issues
  • To assist the caller to take preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of further distress
  • To focus the caller on specific steps that they can take to follow up their contact to Lifeline
