University Student Volunteer

Work on a real community project and put your university skills into practice.

Get Around Caboolture is looking for a university student to join us as a volunteer and contribute to a developing community project.

We work on practical issues affecting people in outer suburban communities, particularly transport, access, planning, communication and how local decisions are made.

We are looking for students who enjoy researching, thinking, asking questions, communicating ideas and making sense of complex information.

What you could be involved in

The work will depend partly on your interests and what you are studying. It may include:

  • Researching Australian and international examples
  • Reading and analysing research, policy and other documents
  • Investigating questions about how communities and governments make decisions
  • Helping develop ideas and turn them into practical approaches
  • Writing and editing reports, articles and other material
  • Developing communications and marketing material
  • Thinking about how to communicate ideas to different audiences
  • Organising and analysing information
  • Contributing ideas and perspectives from your area of study

This is not an administrative role. We are looking for someone who wants to think, contribute and learn.

Your area of study

You might be studying:

  • Planning or urban planning
  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Sociology or social science
  • Law
  • Public policy
  • Political science
  • Geography
  • Urban studies
  • Community development
  • Or another discipline that you think is relevant

You don't need to have previous experience in community advocacy. What matters is that you are curious, capable of working independently and interested in understanding how things work.

What you'll get from it

This is an opportunity to apply what you are learning at university to work that has a real community context.

You will gain experience in research, analysis, writing, communication and project development, while seeing how ideas are developed outside a university setting.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of MOSAIC, a new framework we are developing to improve transport choice in the outer suburbs.

About Get Around Caboolture

Get Around Caboolture is a community organisation working for more transport choice in outer suburban communities.

We work with community members, students, researchers, professionals and government to investigate local problems and develop practical ideas for change.
