What is Citizen Advocacy?
Citizen Advocacy SA is a government-funded, not-for-profit organisation established in 1987. We support individuals with intellectual disabilities to enhance their lives by making connections with members of their community.
What is a Citizen Advocate?
As a volunteer advocate your role is to develop a trusted friendship and provide support a person with disability
- Strength-Based Practices: Helping them to recognise their potential and use their strengths to speak up against injustices
- Personal Growth: Work through steps alongside the individual to achieve their personal and professional goals
- Creating Meaning: Developing a strong and valuable relationship with the individual to create a lasting bond
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for volunteers who meet the following criteria:
Age: Must be 18 years or older. Values: Compassion, commitment and courage Commitment: Long-term advocacy.
Note: This role is not suitable for short-term student placements.
What Support Do Volunteers Receive?
We support your advocacy journey by providing:
- Orientations and ongoing training
- Educational workshops
- Volunteer get togethers and networking
