Boo at the Zoo 2026

Boo at the Zoo at Adelaide Zoo is an evening event for families wanting to take part in Halloween celebrations. It incorporates live entertainment and treat stations to create a spooky night like no other. The event will be held on Friday 30th of October at Adelaide Zoo between 3pm – 8pm, with a Relaxed session taking place from 3pm – 4pm.

We are looking for special event volunteers to assist in creating an outstanding experience for our visitors. Zoos SA is a not-for-profit charity organisation and volunteers help us to continue our conservation work and connect people with nature.

As a volunteer, you will be positioned throughout the zoo in a range of roles. This includes but is not limited to; working on a treat station, answering questions, providing directions, assisting onsite entertainers, and roaming the zoo to interact with visitors.

All event volunteers will receive a Volunteer Handbook in the lead up to this event, which will describe expectations and roles in further detail.

Please note this is a very busy, fast paced environment. We have 4,250 guests receiving a free item at each of the nine treat stations. Volunteers are required to work under pressure and be able to work on their feet for the required amount of time.

Note: This role is visitor-facing, with NO direct contact with animals.

FAQ’s

Will I receive dinner? Yes, to ensure you are fuelled for your volunteer shift we will make sure you have dinner. All volunteers will receive a voucher for our onsite BBQ. Please make sure you bring your own water bottle. There will be refill stations available on site.

What training and support is provided for volunteers? Volunteers will be provided with a detailed Boo at the Zoo Volunteer Handbook which will equip them with the knowledge required for the role. Additional online training may be required.

If I am a current volunteer for ZSA, do I need to read the handbook? Yes, you are required to read the Boo at the Zoo Volunteer Handbook as this will provide specific event information required to undertake this role.

Can I dress up as a volunteer? We ask that staff and volunteers working only ‘compliment’ their uniforms on the night so that guests can clearly identify Zoos SA staff and volunteers. Face paint, headbands, necklaces/bracelets etc. are all permitted.
