Volunteer Driver
Do you want to make a meaningful difference in your community? Foodbank SA & NT is looking for reliable, community-minded volunteers to join our Whyalla Food Hub team as Volunteer Drivers. This rewarding role involves collecting rescued food from local donors and delivering food to community partners, helping ensure good food reaches people experiencing hardship. Your time behind the wheel will help reduce food waste and provide practical support to individuals and families who need it most.
Role Description
As a Volunteer Driver, you will be part of a friendly team helping get good food to South Australians and Northern Territorians experiencing hardship. You will drive a Foodbank vehicle on scheduled routes, collect surplus food from supermarkets, businesses and other donors, return rescued food to the Food Hub, and deliver food to approved community partners.
Every collection and delivery helps keep good food out of landfill and gets it to people who can use it. By following scheduled routes, handling food safely and representing Foodbank professionally, you will help the Food Hub maintain a dependable supply of food for the local community.
What you will do
- Drive a Foodbank vehicle on scheduled food rescue collection and delivery routes
- Collect donated and surplus food
- Load, secure, transport and unload food safely, including chilled or frozen items where required
- Confirm collection and delivery details and complete required records
- Carry out basic vehicle safety checks
- Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and ready for use
- Represent Foodbank with courtesy and professionalism when working with donors, partners, staff and volunteers

- Are a safe, confident and courteous driver with a good driving record
- Are reliable, punctual and able to follow scheduled routes and instructions
- Enjoy practical, hands-on work and meeting people in the local community
- Can work independently while maintaining good communication with the Food Hub team
- Are comfortable with regular lifting, loading and unloading
- Will handle donated food with care and follow food safety, road safety and confidentiality requirements
Requirements
A current unrestricted driver’s licence (C class is sufficient) and a satisfactory driving history are required. A National Police Check is also required; if you do not already have one, we can help you obtain it. Volunteers must be able to safely perform the lifting and handling involved in collections and deliveries and must follow Foodbank’s vehicle, road safety, food safety and incident-reporting procedures.
