Volunteer Legal Advisor – Governance and Compliance (Remote, Flexible)

Are you a lawyer who would like to use your skills to make a real difference for disadvantaged young people in regional Australia? Lifestyle Markets Australia Inc is looking for a volunteer legal advisor to support our governance and compliance work. This role is remote, flexible, and requires around 5 hours per month.

About Us
Lifestyle Markets Australia Inc is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation bringing communities together through multicultural markets, festivals, and events across Victoria. Every dollar raised supports Kinds of Happiness (KOH), a charity dedicated to empowering disadvantaged youth in regional and rural Australia through mentoring, farming programs, and skills development. When you volunteer with us, you are directly supporting that mission.

What You Will Do

  • Provide guidance on charity compliance, governance, and regulatory matters, including ACNC obligations
  • Review and help update contracts, agreements, and other key documents
  • Help management understand legal risks and obligations
  • Advise on legal aspects of fundraising, donations, and sponsorship agreements
  • Offer guidance on privacy, intellectual property, and employment matters as they relate to our work
  • Work with external legal counsel where formal advice or representation is needed

About You

  • A current or former legal practitioner with a law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent)
  • Experience or a strong interest in charity law, governance, or compliance, gained at any point in your career
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain legal matters in plain language
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a friendly remote team
  • A genuine interest in making a positive impact in the charity sector

Desirable

  • A current practising certificate
  • Experience with ACNC compliance or not-for-profit governance
  • Previous volunteer or board experience in the not-for-profit sector
