Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) Volunteer *

The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is an evidence-based, volunteer led program that aims to prevents delirium in older hospitalised adults.

As a HELP volunteer, you will visit patients to:

• implement support actions to reduce the risk factors that may lead to delirium, and
• improve their overall hospital experience as no-one should be alone while in hospital.

HELP volunteers provide tailored support in several areas, including:

• offering companionship and conversation
• assisting with eyewear and hearing aids
• providing activities to promote mental stimulation
• supporting and encouraging nutrition and hydration at mealtimes (open packaging, pouring water etc)
• encouraging movement
• promoting a calm and friendly environment
