Do you have skills or experience in  advocacy, communication or lobbying, or fundraising and philanthropy?

Are you interested in joining ABA’s Board and overseeing the direction of ABA?
If so, ABA has a great opportunity for one new non-executive directors on the Board.

ABA has a vacancy for one appointed director undertaking a two-year term from November 2026.  

As a non-executive director with ABA, you would be expected to:

  • Align with the mission, vision, and values of ABA
  • Have the time to commit to:
    - meet for four full day face-to-face Board meetings per year in Melbourne (on a Saturday)
    - meet for at least seven Zoom conference evening meetings per year
    - participate in and attend Board committee meetings, generally in the evenings once per month
    - spend on average 2-3 hours a week responding to Board correspondence
    - represent the Board at ABA events where applicable.
  • Be accountable to the ABA community, staff, volunteers, members and wider community for the effectiveness, integrity and viability of the organisation
  • Have a strong understanding of governance roles, duties, obligations and responsibilities
  • Be able to prioritise, meet deadlines and be well organised
  • Be proactive and strategic, with a national focus

Additional areas of experience that would be highly regarded include:

  •  IT and cyber security
  • risk management and compliance
  • human resource management
  • working with the for-purpose and charitable sector or volunteer-based organisations
  • prior board involvement.

The appointment will be made by the end of October 2026 with the new director attending their first board meeting and training and development  meeting on 27 and 28 November 2026.
