Community Pantry Coordinator
Lead with Purpose. Transform Lives. Lighthouse Foundation is seeking a Community Pantry Coordinator (Volunteer role) to help provide food and essential items to young people, carers, and families across our homes and programs.
WHO ARE WE?
Lighthouse Foundation provides homes and therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse, and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where kids can feel safe, form meaningful relationships, and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. For the past 30 years, our proven Model of Care has successfully transformed the lives of over 1,000 young people using a range of evidence-based strategies. We now educate and support Foster Carers in the same way, so that they too can take care of some of Australia’s most vulnerable children.
HOW WILL I HELP?
Lighthouse Foundation’s Community Pantry provides food and essential items to young people, carers and families across our homes and programs. We are seeking an organised, practical and community-minded volunteer to help coordinate the Pantry’s day-to-day operations.
Working with the Community Pantry Program Lead, you will help ensure donations are received, stored, recorded and distributed safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Receiving and checking food and essential-item donations
- Applying arrival, use-by and distribution labels
- Maintaining safe food-handling, storage and temperature records
- Updating inventory, donation value and distribution records
- Monitoring stock levels, expiry dates and items requiring priority distribution
- Preparing and coordinating orders for Lighthouse homes and programs
- Recording where goods have been distributed and the number of people supported
- Keeping the Pantry clean, organised and welcoming
- Supporting and coordinating Pantry volunteers
- Communicating stock needs, shortages or food-safety concerns to the Program Lead
WHY VOLUNTEER WITH LIGHTHOUSE?
You will play a practical role in helping young people and families access nutritious food and everyday essentials with dignity, while helping Lighthouse direct more resources towards the therapeutic care and relationships that support lasting change.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
You will be reliable, well organised and comfortable using a basic Excel spreadsheet. You’ll enjoy creating order, following clear processes and working with staff, volunteers and community donors.
Experience in food relief, hospitality, warehousing, retail, logistics or volunteer coordination would be helpful but is not essential. Food-safety training is desirable, or you must be willing to complete it.
The successful volunteer will be required to complete Lighthouse Foundation’s screening, induction and relevant food-safety training, including a Working with Children Check and police check.
