Logo for Lighthouse Foundation

Lead with Purpose. Transform Lives. Lighthouse Foundation is seeking a Food Collection and Delivery Driver (Volunteer role) to help provide food and essential items to young people, carers, and families across our homes and programs.

WHO ARE WE?

Lighthouse Foundation provides homes and therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse, and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where kids can feel safe, form meaningful relationships, and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. For the past 30 years, our proven Model of Care has successfully transformed the lives of over 1,000 young people using a range of evidence-based strategies. We now educate and support Foster Carers in the same way, so that they too can take care of some of Australia’s most vulnerable children.

HOW WILL I HELP?

Lighthouse Foundation’s Community Pantry provides food and essential items to young people, carers and families across our homes and programs. We are seeking a reliable volunteer driver to collect food donations and deliver Pantry items safely to young people and Lighthouse homes.

Working with the Community Pantry Program Lead, you will:

  • Collect donated food and essential items from businesses and community partners
  • Load, transport and unload donations safely
  • Deliver food and essentials to Lighthouse homes, programs and agreed collection points
  • Follow scheduled routes and communicate with donors, staff and carers
  • Maintain appropriate temperature control for chilled and frozen food
  • Check and record collection and delivery details
  • Report damaged items, temperature concerns or unsuccessful deliveries
  • Keep the vehicle and transport equipment clean and organised
  • Provide friendly and respectful service while maintaining young people’s privacy

Why volunteer with Lighthouse?

You’ll help turn community generosity into practical support, ensuring nutritious food and everyday essentials reach young people, carers and families when and where they are needed.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

You will be dependable, punctual and comfortable driving across Melbourne. You’ll communicate well, follow safe food-handling procedures and be able to work independently.

You will need:

  • A current Australian driver’s licence and safe driving record
  • Access to a registered, insured and roadworthy vehicle, unless a Lighthouse vehicle is provided
  • The physical capacity to safely lift and move boxes of groceries
  • A mobile phone for coordinating collections and deliveries
  • Willingness to complete food-safety and manual-handling training

The successful volunteer will be required to complete Lighthouse Foundation’s screening and induction requirements, including a Working with Children Check and police check.
