Parent Thread is looking for a skilled and creative volunteer to help produce a new online professional development course focused on loneliness and social connection in pregnancy and parenthood.

The course content will be developed and filmed by Parent Thread. Your role will be to take the raw footage and turn it into a polished, engaging and professional online learning resource for practitioners who work with parents and families.

The role

You will take ownership of the post-production of the course, including:

  • Editing raw presenter footage into clear, engaging course lessons
  • Adding on-screen headings, key messages and learning points
  • Bringing statistics and research findings to life through engaging on-screen graphics
  • Creating simple graphics and motion graphics to support learning
  • Adding captions and subtitles
  • Applying Parent Thread's visual branding throughout
  • Creating a simple branded introduction and outro
  • Adding supplied research references and source information where required
  • Cleaning and balancing audio where needed
  • Exporting completed lessons ready for our online learning platform
  • Creating a short promotional trailer for the completed course
  • Creating a selection of short-form educational clips for social media

Parent Thread will provide the raw footage, course structure and content, research and statistics, branding assets and creative direction.

The impact you'll have

Loneliness can have a significant impact on parents during pregnancy and early parenthood, yet social connection is not always something practitioners are given the tools or training to actively support.

This course is being created to help change that.

Your work will help turn research, lived experience and practical knowledge into an accessible professional learning resource that can reach practitioners working with parents and families across Australia.

By making the content engaging, clear and professional, you'll help practitioners better understand loneliness, recognise opportunities for connection, and think differently about how they create spaces where parents can feel welcomed, included and connected.

The impact of your contribution won't stop with the finished videos. The knowledge shared through the course has the potential to influence how practitioners support parents in their own communities, extending the reach of the project well beyond Parent Thread.

You'll also be helping a small not-for-profit develop a resource that can continue supporting its work to create connection and belonging for parents and families.

About you

We're looking for someone who is confident using video editing software and has a strong eye for clean, contemporary digital content.

You may be an experienced editor, an emerging creative, or a film, media, communications, animation or design student looking for a substantial real-world project.

Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or similar would be valuable. Skills in motion graphics, animated text or visually presenting information and statistics would be particularly useful.

About Parent Thread

Parent Thread is a not-for-profit organisation creating opportunities for connection and belonging for parents and families.

Our programs bring parents together at different stages of parenthood and are designed not simply around attending an activity, but around creating genuine opportunities for relationships and belonging to develop.

This new professional learning resource builds on that work and our experience delivering connection-focused programs, including Bloom & Connect for expectant mums.

The commitment

This is a defined, project-based volunteer role rather than an ongoing weekly position.

Most of the work can be completed remotely and flexibly. You'll work collaboratively with Parent Thread, with clear content and direction provided and opportunities to bring your own creative expertise to the finished product.

The completed course will be a substantial published piece of work that can also be included in your professional portfolio.

How to apply

Please tell us a little about yourself, your video editing experience and why this project interests you.

Please include a link or examples of previous video editing, motion graphics or digital content work where possible.

We're very happy to hear from experienced creatives as well as students and emerging editors who have the skills and enthusiasm to take ownership of the project.
