Trades volunteers to restore 1912 K-class ferry, Kanangra
Want to make a difference with your volunteering, preserving maritime history while spending your time with a great team in a friendly environment?
Sydney Heritage Fleet is a volunteer organisation dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating vessels which include Tall Ship James Craig, 1912 K-class ferry Kanangra, coastal steamship John Oxley, 1902 steam tug Waratah, 1902 VIP launch Lady Hopetoun, 1903 schooner Boomerang, Tugs and several diesel motor launches.
We’re expanding our trades and maintenance team to restore 1912 Kanangra, the last of Sydney's K Class double-ended ferries. If you are a fully trained and experienced trades person, able to work without close supervision, you'll fit right in.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following background:
- Welders – help restore Kanangra’s steel hull.
- Boilermakers – fabricate the new frames, plates that will restore the hull.
- Metal Fabricator/Welders Assistants – assist the Welders, Boilermakers & Metal Fabricators. You can also learn through experience to do the specialist jobs.
- Diesel Mechanics – restore Kanangra’s existing engines, motors, pumps, valves, pipework etc.
- Painters – The vessel is now reaching a development that restored equipment needs to be repainted.
We are based in Rozelle Bay, not far from the light rail and buses. On your first day you will receive a cheerful welcome, safety orientation training and a guided tour of our work centres.
Sydney Heritage Fleet is a partner in the Australian Government Jobseeker program, so if you fit their criteria and are suitable for roles that SHF need filled, you may be able to work in our dynamic teams and continue on Jobseeker support.
As this is a volunteer role, it is unpaid.
