Staff Connection and Recognition Volunteer

Coastwide Child and Family Services

Staff Connection & Recognition Volunteer

Do you love making people feel noticed, appreciated and included?

Are you the person who remembers birthdays, enjoys celebrating other people's achievements, and believes the little things can make a big difference?

We may have the perfect volunteer role for you.

Coastwide Child & Family Services is looking for a Staff Connection & Recognition Volunteer to help us do something we think is really important – make sure our people know they are valued.

Our team works across a range of education, care and family support services, often in different locations. In busy organisations, it's surprisingly easy for the little things to get missed.

A work anniversary passes unnoticed. Someone completes a qualification. A new employee joins the organisation. A family sends a wonderful compliment about an educator. Someone has been quietly contributing for years.

We'd like some help making sure those moments don't disappear.

What might you do?

Around four hours each week, you could be:

  • keeping track of birthdays and work anniversaries;
  • preparing cards and small approved acknowledgements;
  • helping us welcome new employees and volunteers;
  • reminding managers about important milestones in their teams;
  • celebrating long-service milestones;
  • gathering good-news stories and achievements from our services;
  • helping us recognise great work and positive feedback;
  • coordinating simple ways for colleagues to recognise one another;
  • helping with staff celebrations and events; and
  • coming up with your own ideas about how we can help people across Coastwide feel connected and appreciated.

You won't be expected to do all of this alone. You'll work directly with our CEO and closely with our General Manager and other Coastwide leaders.

And importantly, this isn't an HR or counselling role. You won't be responsible for employee complaints, performance matters or personal wellbeing concerns. Your focus is on connection, appreciation and recognition.

Who are we looking for?

You don't need an HR qualification – or any particular qualification at all.

We're much more interested in finding someone who is:

  • thoughtful and genuinely interested in people;
  • organised and reliable;
  • warm and approachable;
  • creative without needing a huge budget;
  • comfortable talking with different people;
  • discreet and respectful of confidential information; and
  • the sort of person who gets satisfaction from making something nice happen for someone else.

You might be retired or semi-retired, looking to reconnect with the community, interested in gaining experience in people and culture, or simply have some time each week that you'd like to use meaningfully.

The practical details

The role is approximately 4 hours per week, ideally as a regular half-day at our Coastwide Office in West Gosford, with occasional opportunities to be involved in activities at our other services and events.

There may sometimes be additional hours around celebrations or events, but these would always be by agreement.

The role is initially being established on a trial basis, with a review in January 2027. We're looking forward to shaping it with the right volunteer rather than assuming we already have every good idea.

A current NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check will be required.

Why volunteer with Coastwide?

Coastwide Child & Family Services is a not-for-profit organisation providing education, care and family support services to children, families and communities.

You'll become part of an organisation whose work is fundamentally about people – while helping us make sure we take the time to look after the people who make that work possible.

If you're someone who notices the little things and enjoys making other people feel valued, we'd love to hear from you.
