Role of the volunteer waitstaff/server/all rounder
Purpose of role To provide excellent customer service by taking orders, serving food and drinks, and ensuring customers have an enjoyable experience at the café. You will work closely with the café team to maintain a clean working environment and assist with any customer needs.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
• Greet customers as they arrive
• Take orders for food and beverages accurately and promptly
• Serve food and drinks to customers in a friendly and efficient manner
• Ensure that customers’ needs are met throughout their visit, including checking satisfaction
• Clean up during service and operate dishwasher, return clean dishes to cafe
• Assist with setting up and clearing tables, maintaining a clean dining area
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure timely delivery of food orders
• Maintain knowledge of the menu to answer questions and provide recommendations
Key Selection Criteria
Essential • Friendly, professional demeanour when interacting with customers • Excellent communication skills in taking orders accurately • Ability to multitask such as taking orders, serving food/drinks, and addressing customer needs • Attention to detail to ensure customers’ orders are correct • Ability to stand and move around for long periods • Competence in cash handling and issuing receipts
Desirable • Experience in food service as a server, waitstaff in any similar environment • Good menu knowledge to make recommendations to customers • Ability to problem-solve to address customer concerns Food Safety Certificate • Teamwork skills to collaborate with other café workers
