Helping someone to gain their drivers licence is truly life changing and opens opportunities in lives that were not possible without the ability to drive. This could include gaining employment, accessing medical supports or further education and training opportunities.

You will not be a driving assessor or instructor, just a capable and experienced driver who assists a new learner to gain experience and confidence in the lead up to doing their practical driving test and drive independently.

You will be a member of a fantastic team of experienced mentors who will support you and share their advice and experiences. The Jumpstart program coordinator will provide the booking and scheduling support along with matching you as a mentor for the learners in the program.

You will be required to hold a current full driver’s licence without a period of suspension or disqualification during the past two years, a satisfactory National Police Check and a valid registration to Work with Vulnerable People. (WWVP card). You will need to have extensive driving experience and a genuine interest in supporting others to gain important skills for safe driving and good communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to relate to a diverse range of participants. You will also be required to undertake the LDMP volunteer supervisor driving training which is provided to all successful applicants. This training is provided to give you the guidance and understanding of what the program is all about while ongoing training ensures that you are given all the tools you need to be the best mentor you can be.

Getting a driver licence is life-changing. It means being able to get to work, attend education, care for family and participate in the community. But for many Tasmanians, getting enough supervised driving experience is one of the biggest barriers.
