The Role: In this volunteer role, you’ll be paired with a senior to provide regular social support visits in their home. Activities are guided by shared interests and may include conversation, listening to music, playing board games or simply enjoying a relaxed chat. Visits are approximately 2 hours and focused on building trust, confidence and companionship.

Our Client: We are seeking a friendly and compassionate volunteer to visit an older person who lives with family and would benefit from regular social connection and companionship. This individual is well supported by family members, however family are at work during the day leaving this individual home alone. Due to changing health circumstances, they are experiencing reduced independence and are finding it more difficult to maintain their social and cultural connections. They live with dementia and other health challenges that affect her independence and wellbeing. They are originally from Sri Lanka and has lived in Australia for approximately 15 years. They speak Tamil and can also communicate in English. They value patience, kindness, and clear communication. They enjoy board games and puzzles, short walks around the local neighbourhood, painting, particularly oil and acrylic art, music and piano, and sports, having previously played netball and badminton. They are quietly spoken and would do best with a confident volunteer to lead conversation. A patient volunteer with clear English communication skills or speaks Tamil would be particularly well suited to this role.
